I'm following the brp too, but I'm a little behind...2 months behind, in fact. Not that I haven't read the bible in two months but I've been sort of off and on this semester. My goal for this next month is to get caught up, though, rather than just skipping ahead.
Yesterday, I was reading Proverbs 25 and what really struck me was 25:20, "Like vinegar on a wound is one who sings songs to a heavy heart." This proverb makes me think about how we as Christians give advice to those who have "a heavy heart." Because I know in the past I've definitely gotten the response before that my advice is too sing-songy or optimistic. And I think about how that is often people's impression of the gospel too--that it's too pie-in-the-sky or not relatable for the harsh reality of their lives...so really it comes down to: How do we share the gospel and the testimony of our lives in a way that shows how good the gospel is, how good God is, but also how utterly practical it is?
I'm not sure I really know the answer to that but part of it comes down to something we were talking about in one of our life group studies a few weeks ago. Our group was talking about how we always seem to make a choice between showing how much of a sinner we are or how holy we are. We either focus on our faults or praise God rather than focusing on how sinful we are but also the progress we've made to show to others that the two are intricately connected and we can glorify God in any circumstance. What it really comes down to is being able to share the goodness of God and his gospel through our testimonies, that even in our sins and struggles, we're still able to glorify God.
What do you guys think? How would you answer this question?
As for the update, I finally unpacked the last box and fully moved into my house yesterday. I've met all but one of my housemates (all pretty quiet so I don't see them much) and the cats and I have pretty much become best friends. lol. I'll send a picture later. Other than that, classes started yesterday, so I'm already sort of reluctantly getting back into homework mode. And, I got my hair cut today--just an inch--but they straightened and styled it so it looks pretty decent right now.
Hope that wherever you guys are--A2, home, internship, etc. that you're able to keep in touch with God and are enjoying the start of your summers!
